Don't hate the CA Supreme Court... it's the initiative process stupid.

People, before you go bashing the California Supreme Court READ the opinion. The boogeyman here isn’t the court, it’s the state constitution that allows stupid propositions left and right. The shame isn’t the court’s; the shame is ours for letting the initiative pass with a diffuse, poorly messaged campaign (ads without gay people?) and for abiding our current constitution. THAT is the acquiescence that must end!

….

The 6-1 vote is about the PROCESS, not the POLICY. Be angry about the policy, but be more angry about a PROCESS that allows this to happen! Constitutional reform!!

….

Key point to focus your rage: “our task in the present proceeding is not to determine whether the provision at issue is wise or sound as a matter of policy or whether we, as individuals, believe it should be a part of the California Constitution.” (Op. at 3)

….

Anyone who was surprised by this wasn’t paying attention. The Court is clearly displeased with the policy but committed to the Rule of Law. This should add to the chorus of people calling to end the ballot initiative process.
